I left Fawbert & Barnard's in 1999. My favourite teachers were Mrs Kane and Mrs Rogers. I am now going into my final year at the University of Stirling for a BSc. Hons in Psychology.

I was at F&B in 1966 for a couple of years and have very fond, if vague memories of happy days, especially the freezing outdoor pool and outdoor changing rooms! Can only remember one member of staff(I am 50 in 2 weeks!)and that was the secretary, Miss Shipman, who had dreadful arthritis, poor thing. Think one of my teachers might have been Mrs Farr? My Mum and Dad taught at Mark Hall. I've not been to Harlow since the late 70's but would love to visit for a nostalgic visit. Now in Manchester with 23 year old daughter and 19 year old son. So glad the old place is still going strong.

I attended Fawbert's from 1969 to 1975. My teachers were Mrs Gribble, MS White, Mrs Farr, Mrs Perrin (the BEST teacher ever), Mrs Bowker, and Miss Nicholls (I can't recall her married name). The headmaster was Mr Buckley.

I recall my school years with mixed feelings, but there were some great times at the school, especially in the summer when we were let loose on the enormous school field.

Back then F & B had its own outdoor swimming pool, which must have been incredibly unusual. I was sad to see that the pool has been removed since then. I imagine the upkeep proved too much to justify retaining it.

In those days I walked to school, sometimes with my brothers, but often on my own or with friends. We walked through woods and we were utterly without fear.

I suspect that kids these days are probably taken to school by their parents, either in giant 4x4s or wearing electrified suits of armour...by which I mean that parents are now way too overprotective of their kids.

After F & B I went to Mark Hall for a couple of years, and then my family picked up sticks and moved to Leeds, where I was sent to a dismal Catholic high school.

Despite this still managed to get decent A levels and go to university.

After wandering around blindly fora few years in the 1980s I landed in the video game industry. I moved to the south west of England, and then came to California in 1994.

I've worked on successful titles such as the LucasArts X-Wing series, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater series and currently I am working on the Guitar Hero franchise as a 3D modeler.

I can't say how much of this was influenced by my time at F & B, but every so often I'll have a fond memory of the school whilst I'm working.

cheers

I am an 'alumnus' of F & B; My mother taught there and I attended between 1969 and 1973, and I still have fond memories of the place.

Although I attended many schools, this was the most influential: I enjoyed lessons which were interesting and stretching. I now teach at Cambridge University, something I never thought I would be able to do when I was at F&B, but am very grateful for the excellent education I received.

I would encourage all current pupils to work hard and strive for excellence in what ever they do.

I left F&B way back in 1978!!!
Loved every minute of it. Only one playground now and no trees. And what happened to the modern toilet block!!!.
Bring back the swimming pool I say, nothing like freezing to death as you tried to do a length.

I went to F and B from 1982 to 1985 . Mrs Jessop, Mr Harris and Mrs Perran were my teachers and Mrs Granger was the headmistress. Oh and Bob the caretaker...mustn't forget him. It was a lovely school then and it still looks nice now.

Hi Ladies! How's everyone doing? Nancy would remember me as her student teacher back in 1997! I'm still teaching. Grade 2 this year (7 and 8 year olds). I just returned to work from a 2 year leave. I had a set of twins (Nicolas and Isabella) 2 years ago. I thought I'd better catch up to Nancy! : ) Thank you all for such a wonderful time there! It was a wonderful place to begin my teaching career. Hope everyone is well! Drop me a line, Nancy. I've enjoyed all your cards and pictures over the years but it was only on your last card the you REMEMBER! to write in your return address! : )

This was my school back in 1976, a very long time ago. It looked very different then i hardly recognized it. I loved this school there was Mrs.Spicer, Mrs Perran and Mr Harris just to name a few, good times.
The school looks great now, well done.

I have looked for this school online a few times, and I finally found it. I went to school there in 1987. It was such a great experience for me. We only lived ther for 4 months, my mom did her teaching internship in Harlow. We are from Newfoundland. Maybe someday we'll come back for a visit.

Greetings from Newfoundland! I was thrilled to come across your website! I completed a teaching internship at this school in 1993 in Maeve Kane's class. I loved my time at Fawbert and Barnard's! I am currently teaching Second Grade in Newfoundland.I will certainly check back often. Super job on the website!

Dennis
