ADMISSION ARRANGEMENTS

Our Governing Body, with the Local Education Authority’s approval, have decided to admit children younger than rising-five (the start of the term during which they become five), on the following basis:
  • Autumn born rising 5s (born 1st September to 31 December) to be admitted full-time at beginning of Autumn term (September);
  • Spring born rising 5s (born 1st January to 30th April) to be admitted full-time at beginning of Autumn term (September);
  • Summer born rising 5s (born 1st May to 31st August) to be admitted part-time at beginning of Autumn term and full-time at beginning of Spring term (January).
In the first 4 weeks of the term, there will be a staggered start for the pupils to enable them time to settle in and get familiar with their new surroundings and routines.

Fawbert & Barnard's have an annual admission number of 30 pupils.

Families must make an application for admission for the academic year to Essex County Council Local Education Authority, Planning and Admissions Department. Application forms will be posted directly to you during the October of the academic year preceding your child starting school. For parents and carers who live in Essex you can apply online using the Essex Online Admission Service at www.essexcc.gov.uk/admissions from the beginning of October.

Registration for admission should also be made to the Senior Administration Officer. This will ensure that you are automatically invited to our open mornings.

Parents of new entrants will be invited to bring their children to attend induction sessions two afternoons before starting full-time during the term prior to their admission. This will provide an opportunity for parents and children to see the school, to meet the teacher and to spend some time in the class.

For pupils transferring into the admissions area during any other time in the academic year, parents should contact the Senior Administration Officer who will be able to advise you on admission procedures.

Admission Criteria for Harlow Community & Voluntary Controlled Primary Schools applied by the local Education Authority
  • Children living in the priority admissions area* with a brother or sister attending the school at the time of application and who would normally be expected to still be attending the school at the time of admission;
  • Other children living in the priority admissions area*;
  • Children living outside the priority admissions area* with a brother or sister attending the school at the time of application and who would normally be expected to still be attending the school at the time of admission;
  • Remaining applications.
* Formally known as the catchment area

In the event of the school being over-subscribed, each criterion will be prioritised by straight line distance from home to school, those living closest being given the highest priority.

Exceptional medical circumstances (supported by medical evidence) indicated at the time of application may override the above.

Notification of place allocations will be given by Essex County Council Local Education Authority Planning and Admissions Department and sent before the term of admission. Parents dissatisfied with the decision of Essex County Council made in line with the admissions policy and criteria, have a right of appeal to an appeals committee established by the Local Education Authority who will conduct the Appeal.
